Codespace: Free Coworking Space for Devs

CodeSpace is a FREE co-working space for the Boulder startup software developer community. We figured with enough sushi and coffee shops for everyone else it was time the developers got some love too.

Our formula is simple: code is free, so should be the space you create it in. If you’re in the neighborhood, come over and hang out – for an hour or the whole day. Enjoy some free wireless, scrawl on the whiteboards, rack up on endless caffeine, and enjoy hanging out and working with the smartest development talent in Boulder.

We have a variety of workspaces: a community table, small table clusters, and dedicated work spaces for three development phase startups.

Applications for dedicated work spaces are closed, but come on by and work in the community area.

The Deets:

  • CodeSpace is located at 1023 Walnut Street inside of Trada’s awesome downtown office building.
  • We’re open from roughly 8:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday (we may extend hours after our first summer session).
  • You don’t have to call anyone, just show up.

Dedicated Spaces:

  • We have 3 dedicated spaces: 1 person space, 2 person space, 3 person space.
  • The two larger spaces have locks on the doors.
  • Working hours are still 8-5, M-F (you won’t 24×7 building access but you can lock your stuff up for lunch).
  • Hang as many signs as you want to make it your own!
  • We will be allocating space for 3 months at a time as we learn what works and does not.
  • You should be developers in the development phase of your idea.

* Deprecating DespairDeprecating Despair

Time: 1:00 pm

Despair is when you are fixing a bug and you happen upon the ghetto of your code base. Ill maintained, written a long time ago, duct taped together to just barely work. You go in and are immediately crippled by the state of affairs. The poor code causes you to seize up, incapacitated. How do you go forward? The business still needs the bug fixed. So you carefully tiptoe in, make your fix, and try to leave without touching anything else, fearing any reason to return. How can you avoid this? How can your code base instill hope? A hope that is the premise of responsible activity, not an empty optimism that the future will necessarily be better than the past.

* Cleanweb HackathonCleanweb Hackathon

Time: 8:00 am

The goal of the Cleanweb Hackathon is to demonstrate the impact of applying information technology to resource constraints. Participants are tasked with building applications that tackle energy, waste, water, and other sustainability issues by leveraging web and mobile technologies. We challenge attendees on what they can do over the course of the weekend that might just change the world for the better.
