Another hectic week at Trada. Also, if you’re around next week, it is Boulder Startup Week from May 2 – May 6. Check out the events and be sure to RSVP for Burgers at Trada. We’ll cap off attendance at 100. Be sure to let our CEO, Niel Robertson (@nielr1), know how you like your burger cooked. I like my burger medium well! Time to recap some must reads for your weekend for online advertising, paid search, entrepreneurship and small business.
- Lessons Learned on Running a Startup – Fellow Boulder startup Devver recently decided to shut down and shared their lessons on what worked and didn’t work. Really honest insights from a brilliant founder, and a great read for all SMB entrepreneurs.
- Definitive Guide to Social Media Strategy Before Tactics – Lee Odden surveys social media all stars to determine whether strategy needs to come before tactics. Interesting debate. At Trada, we have a very high-level strategy but mainly focus on reiterating constantly on tactics and some strategy.
- Resolving a Serious Security Threat – Blippy, a startup, had a serious issue hit recently. Credit card information of its users was in the Google cache. This very honest blog post from the company on what the problem was and how they planned to resolve it. An important lesson to follow when mistakes happen.
- Four Reasons Why PR Agencies Are Taking Over Social Media versus 4 Reasons Why PR Agencies Are Failing in Social Media. My previous two jobs were at agencies and I agree with points in both these blog posts. Both posts have merit and are worth a read.
And for fun – two months after starting at Trada, I still don’t have a business card. But you should check out this Jaffe Juice episode that features my creative solution to a lack of a business card.
